Outreach

Women in Materials Science

Women in Materials Science (WIMS) is a graduate student organization in the Materials Science and Engineering department at Texas A&M that is advised by Dr. Sukhishvili. WIMS is currently led by Hanna Hlushko (president) and officers Raman Hlushko, Alexa Easley, Christa Torrence, Mengying Liu, Ciera Cipriani, Jordan Brito, and Yash Karanth. The mission of our organization is to encourage women to pursue studies in materials science and careers in STEM fields while promoting a community atmosphere among students and faculty. To obtain our goal, we host events in which forgotten women in science are represented and achievements acknowledged, and we participate in outreach activities to younger students with the hopes that providing them first-hand experience doing scientific experiments will kindle their interest in science.
